About

Hi...

A warm welcome to you!!!

I am Uma, the experimenter-in-chief of this cooking blog. I hail from one of the southern districts of Tamilnadu,India. Tamilnadu is known for its hospitality and Tamil cuisine is world renowned. Dishes like Idli, Dosa, Sambhar, Chutney bear a testimony to this fact. Any westerner who pays a visit to India wouldn't forget the taste of these simple dishes. These dishes have originated from Tamilnadu and have spread to various parts around India.

Coming from such a wonderful place, it is an obvious fact that I am naturally inclined towards Tamil cuisine. At the same time, I am a person who likes to explore things around me. I am inquisitive by nature. I respect every culture around the world and I am keen to learn, cook and taste different cuisines around the world.

To be frank, like many of you, I didn't know to cook and all I cared was "as long as I was getting tasty good food, I was least interested in knowing how it was prepared"  :-). My mom tried to teach me various dishes, but I paid little attention. Then a day came when I had to cook for myself. I started so badly that my siblings used to bribe me asking me not to cook :-) So I started to take cooking as a challenge. I started calling my mom and granny frequently over phone and got instructions for various dishes. My cooking improved day by day.

By the time of my marriage, I was nearly half proficient in cooking. But still I knew that I lacked the perfection. My mother-in-law is a good cook and she acted as my guide and I watched her closely when she cooked. I started to learn and cook new recipes or same old recipes but in my own style. But I wasn't getting an opportunity where I can learn about world's cuisine.

The opportunity came when I travelled abroad with my hubby. I started experimented and my poor guinea for all my culinary experiments was my loving husband. I was reading through few culinary articles in the web, when the idea of blogging struck me. Instead of just cooking, why not describe the method behind cooking in a blog, so that it is useful for other amateurs and also people around the world can get to know about Sounth Indian cuisine. Thus umaskitchenexperiments blogsite was born.

From then, my cooking journey started with the intent of learning and sharing with others my successful food experiments which I have learnt from my family, friends and other sources. It was only after I started this blog, I realised that I had a hidden passion about cooking.

"I am still a learner who is experimenting every day with new recipes as the great ocean of exotic recipes lay undiscovered in front of me."

Hi Uma... Nice reading about you. I have been an anonymous visitor to your site for sometime now. Actually when I stared blogging, the first name that came to my mind was "My Kitchen Experiments". I searched for it and that is how I came across your beautiful blog. Today, I've decided to follow you. You have some good recipes with even greater photos. Just love it.

Thanks Love to Experiment. I am glad that you like my recipes and photos. Keep visiting.

your "pin it" feature is not bringing up any pinnable images on any of your recipes!

You have an awesome collection of comforting recipes. Happy to follow you Uma.

@ Anonymous, Thanks for letting me know. I have changed the code now. It is working fine now.

Hi, Uma, I love your blog. Do you have any advice on making Tandoor/Tandoori dishes, including breads, in the Europe and the US? I am thinking of buying a modern stainless-steel clay oven that operates on either charcoal or gas and teaching myself to use it by watching videos online. I have lived and cooked in India, but never learned to use a Tandoor oven. Thanks and keep up the good work!! :) -Sean

@Sean, Sorry I have no idea about modern clay oven. But I used convection oven only for all tandoori dishes. You can make many tandoori dishes using it. Still you need any information about modern clay oven, I will check with my friends and update.

Perfect blog..lovely clicks....very happy to be here and follow you
